With the new open carry law comes new scenarios. Some individuals in the field expect car break-ins to rise with some of our criminal element hoping to find a forgotten pistol in the glove compartment. Guns and alcohol are never a good mix. Law enforcement will be out in droves not only getting drunk drivers off the rode but also the overindulging cowboys firing off celebratory gunshots. Read below and have a safe New Years. Milwaukee Police Department to Enforce Reduction of Celebratory Gunfire During Holidays by Using ShotSpotter Gunfire Data and Alerts   Celebratory gunfire remains a problem in many cities, particularly during the holiday season, and sadly, it can often have tragic results when innocent people are hit by the bullets and injured or killed. The reality is that any bullet discharged from a gun, even into the sky, must land at some location, and the risks are significant for injury or death.   The Milwaukee Police Department and the City of Milwaukee is committed to its policy of zero tolerance of illegal gun use and its initiative to combat gun violence in our communities. Enabling safety, security and the environment to have quality of life and vitality in our communities is our mission and commitment.   During this holiday season, and particularly on New Year's Eve, the Milwaukee Police Department will be deploying patrol officers in specific areas of the city that have the highest amount of gunshot and firework activity recorded by the ShotSpotter gunfire alert and analysis solution in recent months and last New Year's Eve. Officers will respond to all ShotSpotter activations in these areas and arrest anyone caught discharging a firearm in public. As normal, officers will also be deployed throughout the city to maintain the peace, prevent crime and violence, and arrest drunk drivers.   The Milwaukee Police Department utilizes the ShotSpotter gunfire alert and analysis solution to detect and locate gunfire incidents and gather gunfire intelligence and data to fight crime and violence in Milwaukee.
