From [bay_view_matters] Stolen Ladder update

This ladder in the forwarded Email below represents the countless metal objects stolen all over Milwaukee. These include working air conditioner units, ripped off aluminum siding, storm doors, fences, and just about anything else that can fit on a truck. For awhile until he was caught, we even had one guy cutting off and scrapping catalytic converters off of parked cars. The city has tried to combat some of these by requiring scrappers to have a license and to have the numbers of that license in big numbers on the side of their truck, a licensed scrapper would probably be less inclined to cross the line. They also require junk yards to get more information and identification from the sellers. Most scrappers serve a good purpose but that does not include trespassing on your property and stealing your grill. If you see a scrapper without their license numbers on the side of their truck picking up stuff on your block, or the person trespassing on your property, get the description and plate number of the truck and call the Police through the non-emergency number. Naturally if you see a crime in action call 911, just realize that if you are on a cell phone, your call will first go to the Sheriff's dispatch and be rerouted to MPD. This is a problem we can help with. Please get involved.

We had the police liaisons stop by this week to talk with us. They pointed out a couple of things on the video including that they agree that it looks like a Dodge Dakota (the hood is curved more then most Fords and Cheys), it is a much newer then most scrappers trucks, it looks like there is some type of chrome over the back wheels (it glared), it looks like the front passenger side hubcap is missing. They are actively looking for the truck but if you see one that matches the description, please take down their license plate number and then call 6th district police. ANY ligit scrappers will have a number on the side of their vehicle. Any other scrapper should not be doing it. In my opinion, you should call the police whenever you see a not ligit scrapper.

If you haven't seen the video yet, take a look. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpoXyX3HbHs&feature=share
This is a very good example of how laid back and confident thieves can be. Once you take a look, please share on Facebook with your friends so that there is a better chance that these thieves can be caught and people can realize how quickly this can happen.

Thanks everyone. Oh, and we did get a wonderful neighbor to borrow us his ladder yesterday and we were able to finish the job we working on.
