Platinum Protection

Diane from Holt Park posted the Email below on their site. These guys/gals are popping up all over the South Side. I'm resending this to an expanded area.

Steve Djuric posted the email below on another forum concerning a home security vendor working our streets.

Platinum Protection came to my home twice in the past week. We were not interested in their offer, but I was amused by their sales tactics. The salesman stated that he JUST sold a security system to my neighbor, Sandra and that she suggested that I should get one, too.

"Sandra?" I asked the guy where Sandra lives. He pointed to Louise's house on the corner. Funny man. He shouldn't say these things to a person who knows her neighbors!

It made me realize that if there are lies in the sales presentation, how dependable is the service? Read more below to find out.

Join in for Basura Bash and Other Community Building Activities

A great collaborative effort was exemplified by the Third Annual Basura Bash, or "Trash Bash" at Kozy Park on Milwaukee's Southside last year. This summer will be no different.

Safe & Sound Community Partners and Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful brought diverse groups to the park to host the event with over 500 participants. This year's Bash will take place on June 4th at Clarke Square Park and involve more than 20 Southside sites, including block clubs, law enforcement, Safe Places and businesses, as well as community- and faith-based organizations. Volunteers will help out at numerous sites across the Southside, removing graffiti and garbage, while at the same time implementing anti-crime strategies, such as alley identification projects. After working the morning in the surrounding community, participants will gather at Clarke Square Park at noon for resource information, free food, games, and entertainment. To get more information, join in and be a part of the fun just go to our meetings and events calendar.

Malicious Software Features Usama bin Laden Links to Ensnare Unsuspecting Computer Users

The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) urges computer users to not open unsolicited (spam) e-mails, including clicking links contained within those messages. Even if the sender is familiar, the public should exercise due diligence. Computer owners must ensure they have up-to-date firewall and anti-virus software running on their machines to detect and deflect malicious software.

The IC3 recommends the public do the following:

  • Adjust the privacy settings on social networking sites you frequent to make it more difficult for people you know and do not know to post content to your page. Even a "friend" can unknowingly pass on multimedia that's actually malicious software.
  • Do not agree to download software to view videos. These applications can infect your computer.
  • Read e-mails you receive carefully. Fraudulent messages often feature misspellings, poor grammar, and nonstandard English.
  • Report e-mails you receive that purport to be from the FBI. Criminals often use the FBI's name and seal to add legitimacy to their fraudulent schemes. In fact, the FBI does not send unsolicited e-mails to the public. Should you receive unsolicited messages that feature the FBI's name, seal, or that reference a division or unit within the FBI or an individual employee, report it to the Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov.
