Article Author: Andrew T. Levinson Device can pinpoint gunshots instantly MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Police Department showed off the newest tool at their disposal to catch the bad guys Monday. It's called the ShotSpotter and police have put the sophisticated technology in a neighborhood in Milwaukee that needs crime control, but they are not letting us know which neighborhood.
When a gunshot is fired, the sound is picked up on a microphone, and the exact address of the shooting is sent to dispatch that can immediately send cops to the location. The Milwaukee Police Department was able to obtain the ShotSpotter thanks to Senator Herb Kohl who secured the $550,000 in funding needed for the technology.
