Subject: Hit and Run crash

We have new info to share on a weekend fatal hit and run crash after talking with our MPD accident reconstructionists.

On Sunday, February 20, 2011 at 1:50 a.m. a fatal hit and run crash occurred at 1032 S. Cesar Chavez Dr. The victim, a pedestrian, was struck in the crosswalk by a northbound auto. The northbound auto fled the scene. The victim died a short time later at Froedtert Hospital.

A witness at the scene described the striking auto as an early 2000s white Chevrolet Impala. We now know this information is incorrect.

We have now recovered surveillance video from an area business that captured the crash. After analyzing the video and seeking the assistance of several auto dealerships, the striking auto is identified as a 1998-2002 Honda Accord, two door, dark, possibly black or forest green. The vehicle has a significant amount of primer on the passenger side front quarter panel and is equipped with high intensity head lamps. The video is too graphic to release to the public but we now have a better vehicle description that we hope may help us find the driver. The number to call with information is 414-935-7360.

Additionally, we have now identified the victim through fingerprints. He is a 34-year-old male, believed to be from the area. We have not been able to locate any family as yet so we are not releasing his name, pending that notification.

Thank you for helping us get out this information in the hopes of solving this crime.
