Elderly Neighbor gets Victimized in Her Home

According to a recent victim's neighbor on 18th and Morgan, an elderly woman went to her bank and withdrew money for her monthly bills. Not too long after she got home, the doorbell rang. It was two men from the electric company, or so she thought, checking out the electricity in the area. They showed her some type of an ID and being nervous about a possible electrical problem in the, she quickly let them in to check out her breaker box. One man went downstairs with her as the other one politely waited upstairs. Everything turned out all right and the two men went on their way. It wasn't until the next day when she looked for the envelope that she had put on her counter that she noticed the envelope and the money inside was missing. She had been scammed by people working our area looking for victims. It reminded me of a situation not too long ago were a woman noticed a car following her home from Pick & Save. She ended up driving past her house and in circles until the car stopped following her. Thankfully in both cases no one was hurt but it points out how alert we should be of our surroundings and the people in it. It doesn't take too much time and brains to figure out that an elderly person coming out of a bank or doing a transaction at Tri City inside Pick & Save is probably taking some money out and would be a ripe victim for these heartless people. Please pass this on or advise some of your elderly neighbors to be more alert when the go to the bank and withdraw money. I would rather see them a little nervous and watch out more than to go through the traumatic experience of being victimized in their own home.
Thanks,
Steve

Crime Report District 6

Milwaukee Police District Six Crime Analysis & Safety Trend
Meeting Notes - Meeting Wed. May 25, 2011

Events Occurring in May, 2011

Aggravated Assaults - Firearm Related:

1020 W. Boden Court 05/23 @3-3:30 p.m.
At 6:17 p.m. an Officer responded to Wheaton Franciscan Hospital in
Franklin, where the victim stated that an unknown individual
shot him one time in the left arm with an unknown firearm while he
was at a gas station.
This case is still open.

2800 Blk. South 15th St. 05/22 @8:37 p.m.
This was a family dispute where a family member displayed a loaded
50 caliber desert eagle handgun, while intoxicated and threatened
the victim.  Officers recovered that gun and two other guns along with
the subject who was hiding in a nearby yard.

3400 Blk. of South 15th St. 05/17 @3:38 p.m.
This was a fight which started in the gas station located at 16th
and Oklahoma.  Two of subjects involved broke the windows out of one
male's car.  They left the scene as he followed them home.  As they flee
into the house - he shoots at them, then drives by the house and shoots
at the house striking it twice but missing the males.  A female who was
home at the time was identified as the mother of the victims.  She
has been uncooperative on her sons location.  A suspect has been identified
as the shooter and police are attempting to locate him for questioning.

3200 Blk. S. 14th St. 05/11 @ 11 p.m.
Officers were on a traffic stop in the 1500 block of W. Oklahoma when
they heard 3 gun shots ring out south of their location.  The Officer
proceeded to the area when a call was dispatched for shots fired in the
3200 Blk. of South 15th Street.  A neighbor who heard the shots was out
in his yard.  As the Officers spoke to that person they observed the
balcony door ajar on the house to the south and then lights were turned
off at that point.  The officers made contact with several young males
in that house and got consent to search from the mother who met them
there.  The officers investigation revealed that a 40 caliber handgun
was fired off from the balcony at that location.  Arrests were made for
endangering safety.

Aggravated Assaults - Non-Firearm:

4400 Blk. West Arthur Ct. 5/10 @6:02 p.m.
Suspect struck the victim several times in the head causing a laceration
which required stiches.  Unknown suspect.

This is an ongoing feud over a girlfriend on Facebook.

Sexual Assaults:
    None

Armed Robbery:

3700 Block of South 27th Street

Victim was approached as he exited the Dollar Tree store.  The suspect
asked if he wanted to buy some items.  The victim allowed the suspect
to get into his car.  The suspect then had the victim drive him around
the area.

2200 Block of West Alvina Avenue
This was a residence where the subjects entered the home and demanded
money.  One victim was tazed.

3100 Blk. of South 76th Street
Suspect entered the Little Ceasar restaurant and demanded money.
